The purpose of this study was to retrospectively determine the curative efficacy of arthroscopic treatment in 99 cases of patellar fractures (study group) vs traditional open reduction in 104 cases of patellar fractures complicated with cartilage injury. The study found that the treatment of patellar fractures under arthroscopy could effectively achieve anatomical reduction of patella, reduce joint inflammation with less surgical trauma, relieve pain for patient, and improve postoperative functional recovery. A second look with secondary arthroscopy favors direct visual evaluation on the repair of patellar cartilage, and enables a redo manipulation and treatment of lesions in due time.
