Objective To investigate the relationship between serum neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and overactive bladder(OAB),as well as to explore whether NLR can be used as a bio-marker to distinguish OAB from healthy individuals. We postulate that elevated NLR levels are intri-cately associated with the classification and severity of OAB.Methods The medical records of 56 adult women diagnosed with OAB at Peking University People's Hospital were analyzed as a cross-sectional study. In addition, data were obtained from a randomly selected cohort of 167 healthy women, and NLR was determined by calculating the ratio of neutrophils to lymphocytes.Additional-ly,symptom assessment questionnaires were collected from OAB patients. Results Baseline anal-ysis showed the NLR was significantly higher in OAB patients than in healthy individuals[(2.46±1.24)vs(1.78±0.65),P<0.001].Within the OAB group,OAB-wet bladder demonstrated nota-bly divergent NLR levels in comparison to OAB-dry,but without statistically significance(P=0.092).In addition,we observed a significant positive correlation between NLR and Overactive score system(OABSS)scores(P=0.019).The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis yielded an area under the curve(AUC)of 0.733 for NLR in distinguishing OAB from the normal group, and an AUC of 0.701 in distinguishing OAB-wet and OAB-dry.Conclusions This study shows that serum NLR can be used as a non-invasive diagnostic marker in the diagnosis of OAB pa-tients and symptom assessment.
