Discussion on Establishment of Ash Content Index in PVC-U Pipe Standards
The determination method of ash content index of unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC-U)pipes and its application in product standards were studied. The results show that under the same burning conditions, the weight loss rates of inorganic fillers used in different types of PVC-U pipes vary. The filling material dosage and mechanical property changes of PVC-U pipes cannot be derived solely based on ash content. The use of ash content index as a substitute indicator lacks reliability, and the setting of ash content limit values cannot improve product quality, which interferes with product quality control. Moreover, the existing mechanical property indicators in GB/T 5836.1-2018"Unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC-U)pipes for soil and waste discharge inside buildings"can meet the performance requirements of PVC-U pipes as a direct property indicator, and there is no need to increase the ash content index.
