Harmony and Conflict:An Analysis of the Interaction Characteristics of Children With Autism and Their Siblings
Social difficulties are one of the core barriers of autism spectrum disorder.Able-bodied siblings are an important social force for children with autism. This paper reviews the literature on the interaction characteristics of autistic children and siblings at home and abroad, and shows that, firstly, autism and the interaction between siblings is a unique combination of reciprocity and complementarity, which has the characteristics of harmony and conflict;secondly, autism and the interaction between siblings presents an unstable"wave"due to the age and gender of siblings;thirdly, the asymmetrical interaction status between children with autism and their siblings is relatively fixed;fourthly, the one-way interaction dominated by healthy siblings has become the norm;fifthly, the confusion of family responsibility will lead to the phenomenon of"misplaced"parenting. Finally, some suggestions are put forward from the aspects of society, family, and culture,in order to provide reference for the healthy operation of families of children with autism.
