Research on the Sign Language Translation of Chinese Human Body Idioms:Take the National General Sign Language Dictionary as an Example
Human body idioms are an important category in Chinese idioms. The National General Sign Language Dictionary contains a total of 40 sign language techniques for human body idioms, making it the category with the most entries for sign language idioms in the dictionary. From the perspective of the semantic evolution of human body idioms, associative extension and similar extension are the two main ways in which human body idioms propagate and derive from their original meanings to extended meanings. In teaching, attention should be paid to the practice of context matching strategies and image correspondence strategies in sign language visual translation,in order to fully reproduce the semantic connotations of idioms. Among them, the context matching strategy operates through three steps of situational restoration, determination of morpheme derived meanings, and translation of meanings. The image correspondence strategy involves three steps in translation practice, namely capturing images, seeking corresponding meanings, and creating artistic conception.
