Functional Semantic Configuration of Lawyers'Persuasion in Fact Reconstruction
Lawyers'persuasion is grounded in the transmission of lawyers'experiential meaning in trial fact reconstruction, which is embodied in functional semantic configurations. This study constructs an analytical framework combining the nuclear relations in Systemic Functional Linguistics and the contextual factors of lawyers'persuasion. It then explores the functional semantic configurations of lawyers'persuasion and their persuasive effects in trial fact reconstruction.Through the qualitative annotation and quantitative analysis of the self-built courtroom discourse corpus, this study finds that lawyers'persuasion is embodied typically in six types of functional semantic configurations and they tend to be used at certain trial stages. These semantic configurations can clearly indicate lawyers'purpose of seeking recognition from judicial officers, suit the trial stage they are at,and conform to lawyers'code of ethics, thus achieving good persuasive effects.
