A Meta-Analysis of the Effectiveness of Boredom on Foreign Language Achievement
Based on 33 effect sizes from 30 studies involving 17,067 participants, this meta-analysis explored the relationship between foreign language boredom and foreign language achievement as well as the potential moderators of this relationship. It is found that(1)foreign language boredom was negatively correlated with foreign language achievement at a medium level;(2)learners'target language and cultural background did not significantly moderate the correlation;and(3)learners'language learning context,urban-rural background and educational stage were not significant moderators. This research provides pedagogical implications for relieving foreign language boredom in foreign language teaching.
