Advancements and Prospects of Research on Syntacticization of Pragmatics
Syntacticization of pragmatics,a current trend to integrate pragmatics into syntax,is mainly manifested in its theoretical orientations of performative hypothesis,function phrase hypothesis and interactional grammar hypothesis.Based on these hypotheses,this article reviews the latest advancements in research of syntacticization of pragmatics.First,syntax and pragmatics are inseparable,pragmatic factors such as emotion expressivity,subjectivity and vocatives can all be analyzed as syntactic structures;second,like agreement features of English syntax,discourse features play important roles in syntactic construction;third,revolving around the proposition,discourse participants collaboratively construct a syntactic structure through grounded interaction.The study of syntacticization of pragmatics not only expands the observation scopes of syntactic objects but also promotes deeper alignment between syntax,pragmatics and patterns of functionalism,and it is likely to provide a possible breakthrough for the ongoing debates between contextualism and semantic minimalism.
