Frontiers and Prospects of Multimodal Metaphor Research
This article provides an overview of multimodal metaphor research,with a focus on its advancements in theories,methodologies and research genres.Theoretically,the synthesis of multidisciplinary knowledge has yielded a multidimensional framework for the micro-,meso-and macro-descriptions of multimodal metaphor.Methodologically,substantial advancements have been made in the identification and quantitative analysis of multimodal metaphor,epitomized by the applications of novel frameworks,multimodal corpora and multimodal ethnographic methods.Regarding genre analysis,multimodal metaphor research covers almost all genres,including the emerging digital media genres.Finally,the remaining problems in multimodal metaphor research are discussed,and suggestions for future research are proposed.
