Second Language Acquisition in the Context of Large Language Model of ChatGPT
As large language models like ChatGPT are successful in creating meaningful contexts through collaborative dialogue,generating L2 input resources,fostering L2 output,attending to psychological experiences,and providing instant feedback,they can be exploited to effectively empower L2 acquisition.However,foreign language teachers should also be mindful of potential issues arising from the application of ChatGPT in teaching,such as inaccuracies in some information generated,the model's inherent"information cocoon",and its potential for weakening student initiative,inducing plagiarism,challenging traditional teacher roles and reducing teacher trust.Due to the unavoidable trend of the educational application of generative artificial intelligence(Al)such as ChatGPT,L2 teachers and students should actively embrace intelligent technology to build a new system of foreign language education and teaching empowered by artificial intelligence.
