The Role of Emotional Intelligence in L2 Willingness to Communicate:The Mediating Effects of Academic Emotions
The study explored the relationship among emotional intelligence, academic emotions and L2 willingness to communicate(WTC)through a questionnaire survey to 275 junior high school EFL learners, with a focus on the mediating effects of foreign language enjoyment and foreign language anxiety. The results revealed that(1)emotional intelligence positively predicted foreign language enjoyment and L2 WTC,and negatively predicted foreign language anxiety;and(2)foreign language enjoyment played a partially mediating role in the effect of emotional intelligence on L2 WTC,while foreign language anxiety did not play such a role. The findings can provide important theoretical and practical implications for enhancing L2 WTC.
