Analysis of the current situation and influencing factors of falls among elderly needing assistance in community home care
Objective To explore the current situation of falls among elderly individuals needing assistance in community home care in Urumqi and the influencing factors,providing a reference for fall prevention and enhancing the safety of the home environment for the elderly.Methods A stratified random sampling method was employed to select 317 elderly individ-uals needing assistance from 8 communities in Urumqi.Home visits were conducted using a general information question-naire,a home environment safety assessment scale,and an elderly capability assessment standard.A binary logistic regres-sion model was utilized to analyze the influencing factors of falls among elderly individuals needing assistance.Results A-mong the elderly,35.02%reported having experienced falls in their home environment,with 15.80%having fallen in the past year.Regression analysis revealed that moderate impairment in activities of daily living(OR=4.553,95%CI:1.948-10.640);being overweight(OR=2.618,95%CI:1.209-5.669)and obese(OR=2.899,95%CI:1.015-8.283);self-rating the home envi-ronment safety as average(OR=2.790,95%CI:1.291-6.030)and poor(OR=8.174,95%CI:2.284-29.252);and having reflec-tive and non-slip flooring(OR=2.939,95%CI:1.358-6.364)were significant risk factors for falls among elderly individuals needing assistance with statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion The occurrence of falls among assisted elderly individu-als at home is influenced by multiple factors,with greater risks associated with moderate to severe impairment in daily living activities,being overweight or obese,self-perceived average or poor home safety,and having reflective and non-slip flooring.
