The application value of positron emission tomography in the diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of esophageal cancer in Inner Mongolia region
Objective By analyzing different imaging data of esophageal cancer in different regions,this study demonstrates the diagnostic value of 18 F Fluorodeoxyglucose(18 F FDG)and positron emission tomography(PET/CT)for this type of disease.Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 35 patients with esophageal cancer who were admitted to the People's Hospital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from March 10,2021 to December 24,2023.The patients were examined by 18 F-FDG PET/CT,and the results were compared with the pathological results to explore the diagnostic value of 18 F-FDG and PET/CT in this kind of diseases.Results The accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity of 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging in the diagnosis of primary esophageal cancer were 85.8%,97.7%,and 60.0%,respectively.The diagnostic accuracy of computed tomography(CT)for primary esophageal cancer was80.0%,with a sensitivity of 92.9%and a specificity of 42.9%.The Kappa test was performed on the diagnostic and pathological results of 18 F-FDG PET/CT,and the consistency of the test results was good.The accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity of 18 F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosing squamous cell carcinoma were 63.4%,73.7%,and 100%,respectively.The accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity of 18 F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosing adenocarcinoma were 75%,66.7%,and 100%,respectively.The accuracy of 18 F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosing adenocarcinoma was higher than that of squamous cell carcinoma.The maximum SUV value(SUVmax value)of locally recurrent lesions in squamous cell carcinoma patients was higher than that of locally recurrent lesions in adenocarcinoma patients,with a statistical difference(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in SUVmax values between 18 F-FDG PET/CT lymph node metastases and distant metastases in esophageal cancer patients(P>0.05).Conclusion 18 F-FDG PET/CT can provide reliable semi quantitative diagnostic value for the differentiation of esophageal cancer and postoperative clinical staging of esophageal cancer.Moreover,the expression of SUV max has important reference value for the recurrence and metastasis of esophageal cancer patients after surgery,which can better guide clinical treatment.
