The impact of implementing centralized procurement of medical consumables on medical expenses and the utilization of medical insurance funds for inpatients in the cardiology department:a case study of a tertiary hospital in chifeng city,inner mongolia
Objective This study analyzes the impact of implementing centralized procurement of medical consumables in the cardiology department of a tertiary hospital in Chifeng City,Inner Mongolia,on general medical expenses,selected opera-tional indicators,cost composition,and the utilization of medical insurance funds before and after implementation.The aim is to explore the effectiveness and value of the role played by the policy of centralized procurement of medical consumables in the re-form of medical insurance payment methods.Methods Descriptive analysis was employed to analyze the basic information of pa-tients,selected operational indicators,and the composition of medical expenses before and after the implementation of centralized procurement of medical consumables in the cardiology department.Independent sample t-tests were used to compare the medical expenses and the utilization of medical insurance funds for inpatients before and after the implementation of centralized procure-ment of medical consumables.Results After the implementation of the policy of centralized procurement of medical consuma-bles,the total medical expenses and material costs for inpatients in the cardiology department decreased,while other expenses in-creased slightly.The out-of-pocket expenses for patients decreased,and the medical insurance fund payment rate increased by 6.02％.Conclusion The implementation of centralized procurement of medical consumables has reduced departmental costs and significantly controlled expenses,effectively alleviating the financial burden of medical expenses on patients.This policy optimiza-tion in cost management within medical institutions enhances the efficiency of medical insurance fund utilization and positively contributes to the reform of medical insurance payment methods.
