Text analysis is used to systematically analyze the female images in Soseki Natsume's works. The female images depicted by Soseki Natsume can be divided into two categories:the tradi-tional women who are virtuous wives and good mothers and the new women who have strong self-con-sciousness.The female images depicted in her works fully reflect her contradictory views of women, which are both traditional and modern. The traditional view of women is mainly reflected in the subor-dinate status of women in love, the admiration of good wives and virtuous mothers and the contempt and disgust towards women. As an intellectual who has studied in the UK for many years and has been baptized by western modern thinking,Soseki Natsume's views of women also have a modern and advanced side.He supports women's free love, bravely pursues love and recognizes gender equality Soseki Natsume's views of women are influenced not only by the traditional Japanese views of women and the strong promotion of women's education during the Meiji era,but also by personal experiences such as studying abroad and personal emotions.
