Member Heterogeneity Improved the Performance of Farmer Cooperatives——Based on Data from 403 Cooperatives in Sichuan Province
Farmer cooperatives have both economic and social functions, and are the organizational carriers for promoting agricultural efficiency and farmers'income. In recent years, the development of farmer cooperatives has shown considerable changes in membership heterogeneity, and the impact of this change on the performance of cooperatives needs to be studied in depth. This paper is based on 403 cooperatives samples in Yibin City,Sichuan Province, this study analyzed the dual effects of multidimensional member heterogeneity on the economic and social performance of cooperatives. The research indicated that the returning identity of leader farmers, the number of family farm members, and the establishment of primary-level Party organizations significantly positively affected the economic and social performance of farmer cooperatives. Therefore,it is necessary to encourage and support returning farmers to establish cooperatives independently, support the integrated and innovative development of"cooperatives+family farms"and promote the inter-embedded development of"cooperatives+party branches".
