A Study on the Distinction of Japanese Synonyms Based on Corpus Analysis in Higher Education——Take"benkyousuru, narau, manabu, gakushuusuru, osowaru"as an example
In advanced Japanese language education, students tend to find it hard to accurately dis-tinguish subtle differences between Japanese synonyms. This difficulty not only affects the accuracy of their spoken and written expressions but can also lead to misunderstandings. Therefore, this study ex-amines five"learning"verbs—benkyousuru(to study),narau(to learn),manabu(to study/learn),gakushuusuru(to learn/study),and osowaru(to be taught)—using the Japanese corpus BCCWJ to ana-lyze the patterns of subject noun collocations associated with each verb. The aim is to clarify the differ-ences in their compatibility with specific subject nouns. Results from this research are expected to guide introductory instruction by suggesting that verbs that are more commonly paired with familiar subjects(e.g.first person)be taught first, thus helping students more effectively grasp subtle nuances in meaning and improve the precision of their language use.
