Preparation and Performance Study of ZrO2/LaAl11-3xNi3xO18 Composite Ceramic Materials
Conventional blue ceramics are usually colored with CoAl2O4,and the main problems of this colorant at present are high price, low reserves and high toxicity. To solve these problems,a new blue ceramic material completely free of cobalt was synthesized.Solid-phase reaction method was used to synthesize nickel-doped ceramic pigment LaAl11-3xNi3xO18,and then ZrO2/LaAl11O18 cobalt blue complex-phase ceramics with full color and excellent mechanical properties were prepared by high-temperature sintering at 1450 ℃.With a series of characterizations, the physical phase structure of nickel-aluminum spinel(NiAl2O4)started to appear in the sample after LaAl8.75Ni2.25O18,and the formation of the color center was associated with the electron leap generated by the substitution of Ni2+for Al3+and the presence of La3+in LaAl11O18.The color center of the sample absorbed and reflected specific wavelengths of visible light, making the ceramic sample to appear cobalt blue, and the increase in fracture toughness is closely related to the LaAl11O18 slab-like grains.Due to the almost identical color with cobalt blue and better mechanical properties of this complex ceramic,it is expected to have great potential and application in repla-cing CoAl2O4 colorant in industry.
