Research on Distribution Characteristics of Medium and Heavy Rare Earths in Bayan Obo Main and East Orebody
The representative ore samples of the main and east orebody of Bayan Obo and the deep core samples of the east orebody were systematically collected. The contents of medium and heavy rare earths in the samples were analyzed by physical and chemical detection, and the distribution characteristics of medium and heavy rare earths in different ores were studied by polarized light microscope, field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM),energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS)and mineral automatic identification system. At the same time, the relationship between medium and heavy rare earths, the total amount of rare earths and iron was studied through a large amount of core detection data in the deep part of the east orebody. The results show that the ore-bearing rocks with the highest content of medium and heavy rare earths in the main orebody are sodium pyroxene type niobium rare earth iron ore(0.189%)and fluorite type niobium rare earth iron ore(0.175%),and the ore rocks with the highest content of medium and heavy rare earths in the east mine are sodium pyroxene type niobium rare earth iron ore(0.204%)and sodium pyroxene type niobium rare earth ore(0.179%).The distribution rate of medium and heavy rare earths in minerals is:bastnaesite(43.69%)>monazite(38.63%)>other rare earth minerals.Al-though the distribution of medium and heavy rare earths in Bayan Obo is relatively low,due to the high grade of total rare earths and the large total reserves, the resource potential of medium and heavy rare earths is huge, and research on the devel-opment and utilization of medium and heavy rare earths in Bayan Obo should be strengthened. The research results play a posi-tive role in realizing precision mining, fine smelting, high value utilization of resources and fully exploring the potential value of medium and heavy rare earth resources in Baiyun Obo.
