The earliest translations of Brecht's plays in China can be traced back to 1939,with the premiere version likely being The Informer performed by the Luyi Experimental Troupe in Yan'an in 1941.Over the past eighty years,a considerable number of Brecht's plays have been translated and performed in China.Brecht's strong sense of social criticism and his use of the"Alienation effect"as a theatrical technique have made his works full of openness, leading to the emergence of numerous adaptors. However, this has also resulted in ambiguity and even a sense of contradiction among the adapted works, which calls for our reflection and further examination.
