The term"postmigration"originates from the German word"das Postmigrantische".It doesn't merely follow a chronological sequence in migration studies but represents a rapidly evolving theoretical discourse within the fields of sociology,migration studies,and cultural studies.This discourse critically and reflexively addresses the dilemmas associated with migration in Europe.Theorists and theatre artists engage in profound discussions about this concept and have developed three distinct research paradigms to examine the social changes and cultural conflicts resulting from migration in European societies.Postmigrant theatre has emerged as a result,bringing with it new theories,practices,and theatrical aesthetics.This provides a fresh perspective for studying the social changes and multicultural dynamics brought about by immigration.The reforms and practices undertaken by two major postmigrant theatres,the Maxim Gorki Theater and Munich Kammerspiele,represent two different approaches to negotiating between institutional dramaturgy and the socio-cultural environment.These approaches reflect a new direction in the future development of German theatre.
