The Core Industrial Cluster in Digital Economy Empowers the Development of New Quality Productive Forces:Theoretical Mechanisms and Empirical Tests
Based on panel data from 286 prefecture level and above cities in China from 2013 to 2022,this study empirically analyzes the impact and mechanism of core industrial cluster in digital e-conomy on developing new quality productivity.The results confirm that the cluster of core indus-tries in the digital economy has a significant positive impact on the development of new quality pro-ductivity,which is still valid after endogeneity issues,Winsorize reduction,replacement of measure-ment methods,and robustness tests considering policy exogenous shocks.The impact of core indus-trial cluster on the development of new quality productive forces suggests a tendency from high to low is:East region, West region,Northeast region and Central region,with first-tier cities higher than second-tier and below at the same time,according to heterogeneity test.The test of the mecha-nism of action indicates that breakthroughs in science and technology,allocation of production fac-tors, and upgrading of industrial structure play a mediating role in the influence on the development of new quality productivity.Therefore,it is beneficial to take the construction of digital clusters as the guideline, and focus on regional collaborative development and advanced technological break-throughs,in developing new quality productive forces.
