Based on the metacognitive theory,this paper suggests metacognitive strategies be put into English reading classroom of vocational colleges so as to improve teaching efficiency and develop independent learners.The steps of metacognitive strategy application discussed here are as follows:enriching students' metacognitive knowledge,planning,monitoring reading process and evaluating reading performance.
