This paper analyses the great significance of body language from the view of social cognition, so as to illustrate that body language, which comprises the psychological, social, religious, historical and cultural factors, is rather a way of thinking and cognition than simply a form of non-verbal language. Aiming at fully and precisely conveying the source language to the target readers, the paper applies several situational cases to explore the cognitive basis and the metaphor on which the body language arises and employs the necessary translation strategies accordingly to avoid the occurrence of mistranslation.
