Differential expression and prognostic value of Ki67 in different histological types of ovarian cancer
Objective To investigate expression and clinical significance of Ki67 in different histological types and International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology(FIGO)stages of epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods The Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis(GEPIA)and the Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO)databases were used to assessed the expression of Ki67 in ovarian cancer. The RNA expression lev-el of Ki67 in ovarian cancercells was assessed using RT-qPCR.The protein expression level of Ki67 in 104 ovarian cancer tissues by immunohistochemistry method, and it analyzed for its association with clinico-pathological features and prognosis of ovarian cancer. Results Ki67 was highly expressed in carcinoma ovarian cells and tissues.Ki67 expression was significantly associated with FIGO stage(P<0.001),histo-logical type(P<0.001),involvement of unilateral/bilateral(P=0.007)and presence of lymph node me-tastasis(P=0.014).Ki67 expression was highest in serous carcinoma and lowest in clear cell carcinoma, andthe difference in Ki67 expression between serous carcinoma and endometrioid carcinoma(P=0.007),clear cell carcinoma(P<0.001)was statistically significant.Moreover,Ki67 expression was highest in FIGO Ⅲ,and the difference in Ki67 expression between FIGO stage Ⅲ and stages Ⅰ(P=0.002),stageⅡ(P=0.008)was statistically significant. The 3-year survival rate and progression-free survival(PFS)were significantly lower in Ki67 high expression than in low expression(P<0.05).Conclusion The posi-tive rate of Ki67 expression in serous carcinoma is significantly higher than other types of ovarian carcino-ma,which can be used in the pathological diagnosis and differential diagnosis of serous carcinoma. There is a correlation between high expression of Ki67 and poor prognosis in ovarian cancer patients.
