Clinical characteristics of 1432 elderly inpatients with dermatosis
Objective To analyze the prevalence of skin diseases and the composition of the diseases in the elderly inpatients of dermatology.Methods A retrospective statistical analysis of the case data of elderly patients hospitalized(age 60 or older)in the De-partment of Dermatology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Shihezi University(hereinafter referred to as the author's unit)from May 1,2019 to March 31,2024 was conducted,and the prevalence and distribution of disease was compared with that of the pre-elderly group aged 45-59 years in the same period.Results There were 1432 elderly dermatological inpatients(≥60 years old),accounting for 44.05%of total dermatological inpatients during the same period,and the ratio of male to female was 1.28:1.The most common diseas-es causing elderly hospitalization were herpes zoster(36.31%),followed by eczema(23.04%),psoriasis(6.35%),nonspecific dermatitis(5.03%),atopic dermatitis(4.68%),pemphigoid(3.91%).Gerontism patients'incidence of getting bullous pemphigoid,atopic dermatitis,herpes zoster,eczema are 8.60,1.81,1.73 and 1.68 times higher than pre-elderly patients(P<0.05).In addition,there were significant differences in the prevalence rates of above skin diseases between elderly patients and pre-elderly patients.Among them,eczema,pso-riasis,atopic dermatitis and pemphigoid were more common in male patients,while herpes zoster and urticaria were more common in fe-male patients.Conclusions Skin diseases are more common in the elderly,and its disease composition is similar that previously report-ed in China.And there are significant differences in the distribution of skin diseases among different genders and different ages.
