Correlation between body mass index and dietary pattern of preschool children in Urumqi
Objective To explore the difference of body mass index(BMI)of preschool children in Urumqi under different dietary patterns,and analyze the correlation between different dietary patterns and BMI,so as to provide scientific basis for the healthy growth of preschool children..Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 8153 preschool children aged from 2 to 7 years in 60 kin-dergartens at 6 districts of Urumqi in August 2019.Parents reported the basic situation of preschool children and their eating habits,and the correlation between the body mass index of preschool children and their dietary patterns was analyzed.Results After the BMI index of preschool children in Urumqi was graded,the proportions of superior,middle superior,intermediate,middle lower and lower levels were 12.6%,37.1%,45.4%,4.2%and 0.7%respectively.The results of multiple linear regression showed that dietary pattern 2,mainly consisting of fried chicken,hamburgers,French fries,juice,and carbonated beverages,showed a positive correlation trend with children's BMI index(all P<0.05),while dietary pattern 3,mainly consisting of livestock and poultry meat,fresh fruits,and cooked vegetables,showed a negative correlation trend with children's BMI index(all P<0.05).Conclusion A reasonable dietary structure helps to achieve balanced intake of nutrients,and sufficient nutrients are a prerequisite for the healthy growth and development of pre-school children.Parents and relevant units should pay attention to the importance of dietary patterns on children's physical health,in order to improve the guarantee for the healthy growth of preschool children.
