Review on Local Tolerance Assessment and Safety Supervision of Sprayable Cosmetic Products
For most of cosmetic products, skin is the major exposure site of human body.Since the sprayable cosmetics become popular, consumer exposure via inhalation is then probable and needs to be taken into consideration in the overall health risk assessment in view of the intended use of the products. The authorities in China or other parts of the world have issued several regulatory requirements in response to this concern. The differences in histology, physiological function, and mechanisms of action of irritation/sensitization between human skin and respiratory tract were reviewed,as well as the state of the art in local tolerance testing for inhalation exposure. In the end,a proposal was presented for safety supervision of sprayable cosmetic products and especially, the new cosmetic ingredients still under assessment.
