Impacts of Storage Temperatures on the Formation of Benzophenone in Octocrylene-Containing Cosmetic Sunscreen
This study aimed to investigate the generation of benzophenone in four cosmetic sunscreens containing octocrylene under different storage temperatures(25,45,60℃)using kinetics models. The results showed that benzophenone was detected in all four products, with a concentration ranging from(2.25±0.12)to(14.71±0.09)μg/g.A zero-order reaction kinetic model could explain the generation of benzophenone under different storage conditions. The higher the storage temperature, the faster the generation rate of benzophenone.During a storage period of two months at 60℃,the concentration of benzophenone increased by 13.4 to 20.5 times, which might be due to the degradation of octocrylene leading to an increase in the concentration of benzophenone. Therefore, elevated storage temperatures should be avoided while transporting and selling cosmetics containing octocrylene.
