Sensitisation Risk Evaluation of Formaldehyde Releaser-Based Preservatives
Formaldehyde releasers(FRs)are commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics, and diazolidinyl urea,DMDM hydantoin and imidazolidinyl urea are frequently used FRs.FRs can decompose and release free formaldehyde, which may cause allergic reaction to consumers. The use of FRs in cosmetics, possible safety risks and standard management were analyzed to provide technical support for supervision. In order to ensure the quality and safety of cosmetics, standardize and promote the healthy development of the industry,it is suggested that relevant departments in China pay attention to the release of free formaldehyde in cosmetics, strengthen the management measures of such ingredient when necessary, and guide the industry to actively develop new ingredients for preservatives.
