Applications of Microalgal-Derived Fucoxanthin in Cosmetics
Fucoxanthin, one of the most abundant carotenoid in marine environments,is widely present in large algae like brown algae and marine microalgae such as diatoms.Laboratory investigations reveal that fucoxanthin possesses skin-protective attributes such as antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and anti-wrinkle properties.Theoretically,it could serve as a natural source of effective skin care ingredients. However, the commercial utilization of fucoxanthin derived from microalgae is currently limited in the skin care industry. This paper reviewed the current research status of microalgal-derived fucoxanthin in skin care, exploring aspects such as efficacy assessment, safety evaluation, penetration and absorption, encapsulation formulations, extraction methods, yield optimization, and synthesis mechanisms.Through comprehensive analysis from these perspectives, this paper provides a reference for the future application of microalgal-derived fucoxanthin in the skin care and cosmetics industry.
