Thickening Efficiency and Salt Tolerance of Different Viscosity Modifiers
The thickening efficiencies of five thickeners,namely Carbomer 980,Xanthan gum,HHR,Bentone and BLV,when used individually or in combination with each other,were investigated in this papaer.It also examined the salt tolerance of these single thickeners and their two-component thickening systems after the addition of NaCl.The findings indicated that both Carbomer 980 and BLV exhibited superior thickening efficiencies when used alone or in combination;however,their salt tolerances were found to be poor.HHR displayed moderate thickening efficiency and salt tolerance.In comparison,Xanthan gum and Bentone showed weaker thickening ability but better salt tolerance.Among the two-component thickening systems tested,the system composed of Xanthan gum and HHR displayed the best salt tolerance.
