Stability Evaluation for O/W Emulsions by Rheological Method
The stable and unstable O/W emulsions at 50℃were prepared respectively. The steady-shear apparent viscosities, flow curves, linear viscoelasticity, viscoelastic moduli-temperature dependence, and large amplitude oscillatory shear(LAOS)properties for these 2 kinds of O/W emulsions were investigated.A novel 3-parameter rheo-kinetics equation,a modified Carreau-Yasuda equation, and a temperature dependent 4-parameter rheo-kinetics equation had been established, fitting the corresponding steady-shear apparent viscosity, ramping shear-apparent viscosity, and the ramping temperature-viscoelastic moduli curves well.Through principal component regression analysis, the empirical relationship between the rheological index of oil in water lotion and its stability at 50℃was established, and a new rheological evaluation method for the stability of oil in water lotion was obtained. The results provide a promising basis for the preparation of stable cosmetic o/w emulsions in view of rheological properties.
