Relationship Between Explicit Self-esteem, Implicit Self-esteem and Interpersonal Trust of College Students
To explore the relationship between explicit self-esteem, implicit self-esteem and interpersonal trust, 300 college students were tested by Interpersonal Trust Scale (ITS), the Self-Esteem Scale (SES) and Implicit Association Test (IAT) in this study. The results showed that: (1) Urban students has an obvious higher level of explicit self-esteem than rural students; (2) Explicit self-esteem is a significant predictor of interpersonal trust; (3) Implicit self-esteem is not a significant predictor of interpersonal trust; (4) Interaction effect between explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem is marginally significant: Explicit self-esteem predicts interpersonal trust significantly in 10w implicit self-esteem group but not in high self-esteem group. Thus, two types of interpersonal trust were raised: adequacy trust and deficiency trust. The former is based on high implicit self-esteem, and the latter is determined by discrepancy be- tween explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem.
