Theoretical hypotheses of the humor effect of memory
The humor effect of memory refers to the phenomenon that individuals can remember more hu-morous materials than non-humorous materials, and its processing involves many aspects of cognitive pro-cessing components. The existing researches made a general survey of humor effect on memory to explain its mechanism-such as arousal hypothesis, perceived humor hypothesis, incongruity resolution hypothesis, rehearsal hypothesis and context depending elaboration hypothesis. The future research should pay more at-tention to the mechanism of humor effect on memory systematically and formally based on integrating previ-ous studies.
