Development and application research of novel quaternary ammonium salts as antimicrobial agents
This study detailed the synthesis of four distinct epoxy resin quaternary ammonium salts(QAS)through the reaction of triethylamine hydrochloride with bisphenol A type epoxy resins(E-44,E-51,and E-54)and phenolic epoxy resin(F-51).Up-on analysis of the epoxy value of the epoxy resins, the QAS ions present in the epoxy resin QAS,and the infrared spectroscopy of triethylamine hydrochloride and epoxy resin QAS,it was observed that the epoxy groups of bisphenol A type epoxy resins were susceptible to nucleophilic attack, whereas the epoxy groups of F-51 demonstrated greater resistance to nucleophilic opening. The inhibition zone test revealed that F-51 QAS exhibited strong bactericidal effects. When the concentration of F-51 QAS was 0.5 mol/L,the diameter of the inhibition zone reached 2.40 cm.
