Abstract
Structural contradiction is a key factor in the high-quality employment of college graduates. From the ability perspective and based on human capital theory and job matching theory, this study offers a quantitative analysis of the impact of value-added ability acquired by undergraduates during higher education on the employment matching status by constructing an econometric model. It is found that in terms of major matching, the higher the value-added ability, the higher the major matching of graduates, and this effect is mainly manifested through cognitive ability. In terms of educational matching, the value-added ability significantly affects the educational matching status of graduates, and in comparison with educationally-matched students, undereducated students rely on relatively higher cognitive ability to make up for the lack of education, while overeducated students make up for their lack of non-cognitive ability through higher levels of education. In this regard, the cultivation of talents in higher education should take into account both cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, and different types of educational entities should also focus on shaping the different abilities of students, taking into account their own training objectives and orientation.
