Research on the Spatial Distribution and Formation Mechanism of the Universities Relocatedto Chongqing During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression,a large number of higher education institutions were relocated to Chongqing, which sustained the lifeline of Chinese higher education and promoted the development of education in Chongqing.Through literature review and translation of historical cultural map,the background, the process, and the endeavors of universities that moved to Chongqing during the war were sorted and analyzed. It isdeter-mined that 57 universities, including Central University, were relocated to Chongqing. These institutions constructed their campuses in different ways in areas such as Shapingba,Beibei, and Jiangjin, forming two concentrated areas of re-located universities:the Sha-Ci Cultural District and the Beibei Cultural District. This spatial layout features"widedis-persion,smallconcentration and suburbanization"to meet the wartime securityneeds. The influencing factors of this spatial layout were summarized, including safety evacuation, transportation conditions, celebrity effect, functional collab-oration,and facility sharing.
