On Modification of Meteorological Drought Composite Index in Southwest China
The situation of Southwest China drought that monitoring by meteorological drought index and meteorological drought index's applicability in Southwest China have been studied in the paper.With the meteorological observational data and the calculation method of national standard meteorological drought index proposed by the China Meteorological Administration and as the drought events occurred in Southwest China during 2009 to 2010 as examples,the calculation of meteorological drought index has been analyzed and modified in this paper.The application of modification meteorological drought index monitoring the droughts occurred in Southwest China,its testing result shows that the new composite index has a preferably applicability.The new CI index can clearly reflect the characteristics of spatial evolution,which keeps with the spatial distribution of actual drought,and which works better than other drought index in the monitoring results.
