Effects of iridis tectori rhizoma extract on growth performance and immune function of broiler chicks during brooding period
The aim of the experiment was to study the effect of Iridis Tectori Rhizoma(ITR)extract on the growth performance and immune function of broiler chicks during the brooding period. Two hundred chickens, one day old, were randomly divided into four groups, with five replicates per group and ten broilers per replicate. These groups were:groupⅠ(blank control, basal diet),and groups Ⅱ,Ⅲ,and Ⅳ(basal diet supplement with 0.25%,0.5%,and 1.0%ITR)of the experimental drug group, for a pe-riod of 42 days.Feed conversion ratio(FCR),average daily feed intake(ADFI),average daily gain(ADG),and other growth per-formance indicators,as well as immune function indicators such as immune organ index and Newcastle Disease antibody level, were measured once every two weeks. The results showed that from 1 to 42 days of age, compared with groupⅠ,groupⅡsignifi-cantly increased the ADG from 1 to 42 days of age;the differences between groups in ADFI,ADG,and FCR were not significant at all stage of the test period(p>0.05),but as the concentration of the drug added to the test group increased, the ADFI,ADG showed a decreasing trend, while FCR showed an increasing trend.Compared with group I,the differences in thymic organ index were not significant(p>0.05)inallgroupsatalldaysofage.At28 daysofage,thespleenorganindexwassignificantlyhigher(p<0.05)in group Ⅳ compared to group Ⅰ,while the differences were not significant(p>0.05)at other days of age.At28 days of age, group Ⅱ,group Ⅲ,and group Ⅳ had significantly higher(p<0.05)fasciola organ index than group Ⅰ,while the differences between the groups at other days of age were not significant(p>0.05).At all stages of the experimental period, the differences in the antibody levels of Newcastle disease were not significant, the antibody levels of Newcastle disease in chickens were negatively correlated with the time, and all dosage groups of ITR had a certain resistance to the reduction of the antibody lev-els of Newcastle disease in chickens, and at the age of 42 days, the antibody levels in the drug groups were higher than those in the blank control group. The study showed that adding ITR as an immunomodulator to feed can improve the immune function and growth performance of broiler chickens,of which 0.25%addition had the best effect on improving the growth performance of chicks, and a 1%addition had the most obvious effect on the improvement of the spleen indexes in chicks.
