Cross-domain Mapping of Concepts:Conceptual Metaphor and Its Rhetorical Mechanism in the Discourse Construction of the Community for the Chinese Nation
Metaphor provides an important rhetorical concept and method for the symbolic represen-tation of the abstract concept of the community for the Chinese nation. The basic rhetorical principle of metaphor is cross-domain mapping. In other words, abstract conceptual domains are mapped with specific conceptual domains to form an analogically associative way of thinking and ultimately achieve the knowledge building of new concepts. The rhetorical mechanism in the discourse construction of the community for the Chinese nation mainly occurs in the discourse, semantic and semiotic perspectives. In the discourse perspective, the construction of the community is mainly embodied in a conceptual metaphor practice, and the representative knowledge discourse include coexistence, interdependence, and unity in diversity. In the semantic perspective, the construction of community depends on the activation and creation of certain metaphorical schemas, and the common metaphorical schemas include the concep-tual construction of"mutual assistance"based on family metaphor, the conceptual construction of"connection"based on the architectural metaphor, and the conceptual construction of"unity"based on the container metaphor. In the semiotic perspective, the construction of the community is mainly embodied in two types of metaphorical practice:visual metaphor and audio metaphor. They are constructed by the recreation of visual images and the creation of soundscape respectively to build a community identity with the imagination pattern featuring visual image and soundscape.
