Spatial effects of ports and urban economies along the Maritime Silk Road
In order to study the coordinated development of Chinese ports and urban economies along the Maritime Silk Road(MSR)under the"21st Century MSR"initiative and to evaluate the policy's effects, this paper selects key policy port cities along the MSR,constructs a Spatial Dubin Model(SDM),and analyzes the spatial effects of these ports and urban economies. The start year of the initiative is used as a dividing point to observe the changes in economic spatial effects before and after its implementation. The results show that there is a generally significant positive spatial spillover effect on these ports and urban economies. However, after the launch of the initiative,a significant negative spatial spillover effect is observed.Besides, the spatial spillover effects of industrial structure upgrading of these ports on urban economies are also significantly negative. It may reveal that the"21st Century MSR"initiative has had a limited role in promoting the coordinated development of domestic ports and cites, and that the port cities along the MSR have not seized the strategic opportunity to actively adjust the industrial layout and economic structure.
