Returning to the Basics:A Review of Journalism Research in 2023
This article uses the LDA topic model to conduct a comprehensive and detailed review of global journalism research in 2023 and summarizes the core issues and evolving patterns of the current theoretical development of journalism studies.Through topic clustering and text mining of 665 academic papers,this article distills six major sections and 20 themes of journalism research this year and analyzes representative literature under different themes.This article finds that global journalism research in 2023 shows a development trend of restating the basic concepts of journalism from different theoretical traditions,analytical perspectives,and critical thinking patterns.This trend reflects the high volatility of journalism theory in periods of drastic changes in the external environment.This article further proposes that the development of the digital journalism studies paradigm urgently needs to move beyond the initial stage of being driven and restricted by technical logic,and that an attempt should be made to establish a comprehensive system by re-elaborating the humanistic value attributes of journalism.
