The Algorithm Imagination of Fans Circle Groups:Mediation,Materiality and Affect
This article takes the imagination generated by fans circle groups as the platform algorithm acquaintances as the starting point for investigation.Research has found that the platform always emphasizes the importance of quantitative data in the nested interface,and uses the intermediary logic of dynamic quantification,clear identification,and visibility position to demonstrate the existence of underlying algorithms while conveying its own value orientation.Faced with the confusion of invisible but perceptible algorithms and the resulting differentiation,fan circle groups,based on the theory of official technical documents,attempted to open the black box of algorithms through the practice of input-output,and generated a materialistic imagination of the platform's algorithms traffic heat and weight position,in order to more efficiently guide the platform's star chasing practice.We believe that we can imagine algorithms as intermediaries that reveal individual agency and the structural power of platforms,but it is precisely the algorithm imagination that unconsciously leads users to explore freedom in the process of self-restraint,that is,the rules imposed by the collusion of self and algorithm.Embracing uncertainty to explore the agency of the subject may be a viable path.
