Digital Journalism Studies:What Does Cultural Studies Entail?
The emergence of digital technology has led to a comprehensive transformation in the ecology of news communication, presenting intellectual challenges to the field of journalism research.Rooted in the achievements of journalism research from the perspective of cultural studies, this paper analyzes,on the one hand, the innovative requirements imposed by the digital transformation of news industry on conceptions of journalism within the cultural studies perspective. On the other hand,it explores the changes and constants in classical theories of cultural studies within the context of the digitization transformation of news industry.Although the historical context and media technology environment that nurtured cultural studies have changed, this paper contends that the evolved theories in cultural studies can still provide valuable epistemological and methodological resources for digital journalism studies. It suggests that digital journalism should incorporate a cultural critique perspective within its existing problem dimensions, thereby expanding its academic potential for interpreting and intervening in reality.
