Revisiting"News Ecology":The Implicit Metaphor of Digital Journalism Concept and Its Theoretical Reflection
From conceptual metaphor to the paradigm or approach of digital news research,"news ecology"provides a way to understand and recognize digital journalism practices through concepts to explain more complex academic issues.However,the concept cluster of news ecology often lacks a fixed referent and has problems such as arbitrary use.The synchronic-biased news ecology mainly provides a new research perspective for journalism in an implicit metaphorical way rather than a theoretical operation.Previous studies have also suffered from problems such as narrowness,fragmentation,and obscuration of theoretical approaches,and have not yet incorporated interdisciplinary resources with cross-cutting theories such as information ecology theory and technology ecology theory into their scope.Drawing on the research standpoint of conceptual history and advocating for the chained context of"ecology-information ecology-technology ecology-news ecology"can avoid the constructivism logical trap which news ecology theory may fall into,thereby enabling further normative and theoretical researches on news ecology.
