Review on the Ethical Dilemma of Smartphone Apps for the Visually Impaired from the Perspective of Materializing Morality
Smartphone apps,as a kind of media device, are deeply embedded in the daily life routine of people with disabilities, shaping the technological system of human-technology coexistence, and creating new possibilities for the digital existence of visually impaired people.Based on participatory observation and in-depth interviews, this study attempts to deeply describe the unique experience of visually impaired people in interacting with smartphone apps, reveal the intelligent barriers faced by visually impaired users in terms of smart advertisements,Captcha, and interface interactions, and then analyze and interpret this in the path of ethics to explore the structural barriers of technological bias, conflict of progress, and exclusionary internalization behind them.At the same time, this study draws on the concept of materializing morality and advocates embedding ethics into technical design through four paths:building responsible technological systems under institutional rationality, strengthening the cultivation of technological citizenship, shaping the digital identities of disabled subjects, and customizing accessibility-specific versions,in order to improve the current accessible technology and continuously enhance the technological well-being of visually impaired people.
