Party Newspaper How to Guide the Work:Exploration and Evolution of Political Functions of Early Party Newspapers of the Communist Party of China
The CPC's early exploration and evolution of the political functions of the official newspapers represented by Guide,Bolshevik, and Red Flag were deeply influenced by Lenin's ideas on the propaganda, agitation, and organizational functions of party newspapers, and were also closely related to the direct instructions of the Comintern and the political environment. The functions of party newspapers in propaganda, agitation, and organization correspond to the dual political positioning of propaganda outside the party and guiding work within the party. At the beginning of the Great Revolution, given the political demand for"competition for public opinion"and a somewhat relaxed public opinion environment, the Guide favored the positioning and practice of its functions in the sense of propaganda outside the Party, but also explored the"internal"functions of the Party newspaper in educating the Party members and guiding its work,in line with the Fourth National Congress of the CPC,which set out the goal of building a"political party of the masses".In the secretive state after the failure of the Great Revolution,Red Flag and others gradually favored"internal"guidance;as a result, the connection and distinction between party newspapers and political media such as circulars were emphasized and repeatedly discussed by the Comintern and the CPC.Comparatively speaking, the guidance work of party newspapers focuses on concreteness, and the premise is that"the top and the bottom are connected",so reading, distributing, and communicating constitute an important practical mechanism for the implementation of the guidance work of party newspapers. The CPC's early exploration and practice of the political function of"Party newspaper how to guide the work"was meaningful, and the later reform of the party newspaper during the Yan'an Rectification Movement and the concept of"running newspapers with all party members involved"was precisely a new response and a new quest for a new answer to this important but not yet satisfactorily answered question.
