The Public Engagement Mechanism of"Crisis Dialogue"in the Governance of Major Emergencies——An Empirical Study Based on Structural Equation Modeling and Bootstrap Test
In the process of deep mediatization of Chinese society, the governance of major emergencies has derived the fundamental need for"crisis dialogue"with the public. In order to empirically test the mechanism of"crisis dialogue",public engagement is introduced into the theoretical system as a dialogue process and measurement object and is operationalized into three measurable processes. The reliability and validity of the corresponding scales are tested in a sample of 400 national questionnaires. In the formal study, structural equation path analysis and Bootstrap test on the data of 692 national questionnaires have found that the"crisis dialogue"strategy adopted by the respondents towards the responsible subject of major emergencies goes through three processes of information engagement, behavioral engagement and relationship engagement;both information engagement and behavioral engagement have a positive impact on relationship engagement. At the same time, behavioral engagement has a mediating role in the positive impact of information engagement on relationship engagement. In addition, the study finds that media trust is an important influencing factor of public engagement and has a mediating effect in the positive impact of information engagement and behavioral engagement on relationship engagement. The study reveals the internal operation law of"crisis dialogue"engaging the public from the public's perspective and provides a theoretical basis for scientific decision-making in the governance of major emergencies.
