In the Chinese tradition,both ancient and modern,an important goal of education is to train the younger generation to become educated people.To become educated people,exposure to and reading of classical literature is undoubtedly an indispensable task.Classics usually refer to writings that have accumulated over a long period of time,spanning different eras,and are constantly being re-examined,read and interpreted.Classics require constant reading and unique interpretations in order to speak of enduring.The reason why each reading of the classics brings new rewards is that they can still take on new meanings in new times and new spaces after the transformation of space and the passage of time.The true classics usually have a long history of significance.They are also the lifeblood of every civilization.Reading Chinese and foreign classics will help us not forget the past,absorb the present,and face the future,and at the same time help us better construct the Chinese spirit in the current great changes that have not been seen in a hundred years.In this issue,we invite scholars in the field of philosophy to discuss the significance of reading classics from different perspectives.
